Here's what we did last Saturday, begorrah:

Chimpy wore her new hair clip and shirt (green in it for St. Patrick's day).

Took some time to read the paper with Mama.

Then went out for sushi, realizing later that we should have had corned beef from the deli next door.

Four Picture Friday: Vegas Vacation

A big 4PF today as we have a bunch of pictures from our trip to see Chimpy's nana.

Here's Chimpy practicing her Elvis impersonation. Thank you very much.

Chimpy flew well and landed happy. Here she is at LAS with her Nana.

As much as I dislike Las Vegas, I have to admit the desert is beautiful. This is on the Colorado River about 40 minutes southeast of the city. Across the river is Arizona.

We didn't bring a sunhat so we improvised something out of a handkerchief (Gumby style).

Back at the Wigwam, we have some playtime with Nana. (There's a Chimpy under that Nana.)

A good nap after all that wrestling.

The next day on the way to the airport we stop to wrestle with Uncle Jeff.

At the airport, Chimpy realizes that the subject of the Michael Kalish portrait is standing next to her and is no other than her cousin.

UPDATE:
Congratulations to Nicole for getting the most correct answers. They are green beans, yams, bananas and applesauce. I figured the bananas would be difficult as they are surprisingly liquid when mashed, but the green beans proved to be the real curveball in this game. Nicole has decided to bank her 4PF privilege until Chimpy can eat pasta and does that classic kid with a bowl of spaghetti overturned on top of her head thing. Chimpy is a tidy eater, but I think she's up to the challenge. Thanks for playing, everyone.

A Brush with Greatness

I took Chimpy to Wondercon (a comic book convention) to meet my hero, Sergio Aragonés, the cartoonist behind Mad magazine and the Groo comic books. I was a mess (starstruck) but Chimpy was great and made googoo eyes at Señor Aragonés. I was going to take a picture of Chimpy but some guy said "Get in the picture, Dad, get in!" I got in the picture but shouldn't have, seeing someone else behind the camera got Chimpy agitated and she started screaming! It was the loudest I've heard her cry. I'm posting this picture in black and white because her face was so red.

The correct answer came from Momily of ransomed off. The quote is from Jurassic Park (which Jimmy Neutron was referencing—good guess, though. Props also to Nicole who named the movie, scene, AND character... but just a little too late). Momily says:

On behalf of Miss Mather Magoo (who is joyously celebrating her fourth lunaversary today!), I submit a request for a photo montage of Chimpy in her Sunday best... gotta pull out those dresses and fancy clothes at some point!... we haven't put Mather in a dress yet, we need to follow Chimpy's lead.

Cuppycake Gumdrops

Years ago my mom sent an email to me with an audio file of a little girl singing. It was the "Cuppycake Gumdrops" song, one of the earliest internet phenomena. It found a place across the web—mostly embedded in pages dedicated to kittens and unicorns and in forwarded emails telling stories of angels and random acts of kindness. In this age of slick blogs you don't see (hear) it too much anymore, but Chimpy and I found it on YouTube recently and we thought it'd make a nice greeting for you all. Here's a video of the original Cuppycake girl. Happy Valentine's Day, everybody.

OMG!!!

This came as a complete surprise—there was no fussing, no fever, no excessive drooling. Daddy was washing Chimpy's face when the smallest glimpse of ivory flashed through her smile. Sure enough, Chimpy's first tooth!
