Week of Pictures, Monday: This Is How We Swaddle

(How about a week of pictures? Would you like a week of pictures? Sure you would.)

If I take pride in calling myself the Swaddle King, Jojo takes pride (as his sister did) in calling himself a Great Escape Artist. He is a challenge to swaddle, to be sure, but I have my small victories:

Snug as a bug.

I need to credit the night shift nurse who swaddled Jojo our first night in the hospital. I noticed her technique started with a trick I had never seen before and I made a note to memorize it. That trick has been my only edge in swaddling this little kicker.

Zzz.

JoJo Update

I know that picture might be a surprise but before you hop in a car and drive 548 miles overnight (thank you for the offer, Mom) to check on us, let me tell you everything is great and we are all home.

Though K had been discharged, Jojo had to spend a night under photo-therapy in the NICU for low-level jaundice. After several feedings and a much anticipated diaper change, Jojo passed his blood test and was discharged this morning.

It may sound selfish, but it was actually a good time as I spent the night in and around the NICU and finally got a chance to bond with Jojo. Why was that important? Because as you can see, K likes to hog the kids (did I just say "the kids?"):

They are mine! All mine!!!

Here are my two goombahs, already sharing private jokes:

Here's a nice picture:

Paging Doctor Chimpy

Welcome Ford William Connors

That's my boy.

Ford was born this morning at 11:43. He weighed in at 7 pounds, 9 ounces, surprising the doctors and nurses who had predicted a 6 to 7 pound baby. When he caught his breath, he proved to have a loud voice. He also had no trouble rooting and latching on. Just a few hours old and already making his father proud.

Mama is doing great. We were admitted around 4:30 this morning. After 7 hours labor, she began pushing. Thirteen minutes later, she was holding her son.

Yeah, I just had a baby... naturally... three minutes ago.

Chimpy got to meet her brother this evening and told the nurses proudly, "That my brother, Jojo." She brought two rattles, one for her and one to share.

We are all happy and healthy and tired.

Four Picture Friday: Kitchen Renovation and Jojo Fun

We're continuing work on our kitchen. Except for the electrical, we've done it all ourselves and it is very satisfying to be in the home stretch. Chimpy continues to be a good help and has even started an apprenticing program.

Chimpy figures out the nuts and bolts of using a wrench

"Piece of cake!"

Mini Mo gets a quick lesson.

"She's got it. I'm going out for a milk."

Our timing couldn't be better. Yesterday Chimpy dropped a jam jar, startling M. who yelped and scared K. who started having contractions. They subsided eventually, giving us enough time to do the trim work around the doors and windows.

Here's the before:

And the 'so far':

And here's a picture taken today of Jojo:

We haven't been keeping Jojo's name a secret, but it hasn't been mentioned yet here. Tune in tomorrow for a "Guess Jojo's Name Quiz." We'll post some clues over the next couple of days. First to guess correctly wins a jet ski!
